Everything about the Soggy Bottom is harder than you think! Itís more than 100 miles of steep, rocky, muddy, mostly-single track and always exciting race course that climbs/descends some 10,600 feet of Southcentral Alaskaís best trails. Riders traverse from coastal rain forest to alpine tundra and back again. The race course is broken into three legs. Riders start in Hope, AK and head up and down the Resurrection Trail to Cooper Landing. At the checkpoint they turn around to ride a second leg back up the trail to the Devils Pass checkpoint next to the Seward Highway. Beaten and battered, racers turn around again to ride the final segment back up Devil Pass onto the Resurrection Trail to the sweetest, hardest, most awesome downhill that finishes back in Hope. Please do not underestimate the extreme difficulty of this event.
There is no entry fee . . . but all racers must be Alaska Endurance Association members and participation is capped at 60 riders/relay teams. Racers must register by 7 p.m. July 31, 2013. There will be a prerace meeting at 5 p.m. that evening at, 1231 West Northern Lights Boulevard in Anchorage, AK. In Hope, race-day check-in is 7 a.m.-8:30 a.m. Aug. 3 and there is a mandatory pre-start meeting at 8:30 a.m. bear bells and helmets are mandatory!
