Mooseberry Stampede Mountain Bike Race - 5th annual

Mooseberry Stampede Mountain Bike Race is celebrating its 5th anniversary this year - June 9, 2012 - on the same cool trails that wind up and down through the Matanuska Greenbelt. Starts in Crevasse-Moraine at 1:30pm (register / bib pickup at 12:30pm), twists and turns through Mooseberry Mesa, then out onto the Farm fields. Heads back on south side of Long Lake in Matanuska Lakes SRA (formerly Kepler-Bradley Lakes SRA) then back to CMT via Long Lake Connector. The 24-hr race uses the same basic course, but starts at south end.

Details and registration information are here or vmbahraces

Online registration is encouraged to help us plan numbers and also to help make the race a bit greener. We're trying to reduce paper on the race.

We'll have Matanuska Creamery ice cream as usual as part of the post-race goodies.

If you can't race and would like to volunteer, please let us know.

This is put on by Valley Mountain Bikers and Hikers, is sponsored by Mat-Su Health foundation as part of Colony Days in Palmer, and any income over expenses goes to the trails.

Oh, and our moose seem to be friendlier so far and bears are extremely rare. (knock on wood) I have seen moose earlier in the spring, but we each eyed each other and went our separate ways.

Anchorage folks heading to the valley tomorrow for the Stampede. Be sure to leave a little extra time for road construction!!! Single lane traffic going over Eklutna overpass will be a little painful!

Southcentral Navigator : GLENN HIGHWAY, EKLUTNA OVERPASS REPAIR
ROAD CLOSURE: The Eklutna overpass at the Glenn Highway is CLOSED through Monday, June 18. Beginning Friday, June 8 through Monday, June 11, Glenn Highway traffic will be DETOURED at the Eklutna exits via the on and off ramps. The southbound lanes of the Glenn Highway at Eklutna are scheduled to be CLOSED by 10:00am, and the northbound lanes are scheduled to be CLOSED by 9:00pm, on Friday. The on and off ramps will remain open at all times and used as a traffic DETOUR. Be alert to reduced speed limits, SINGLE-LANE TRAFFIC and 24-hour flagging operations.
