    Lost Lake Trail

    Has anyone heard how much snow is still up there? When is that trail usually ready to ride and do you think it'll be early this year?

    Lost Lake --> Snow?

    Two friends of mine were out there last weekend and encountered knee deep snow when they got into The Alpine Zone (1000ft below high point). They said it was melting fast. With this week's sun who knows, I'd suspect it's not quite melted out.

    Call the Seward Ranger District and ask about the trail conditions.

    Thank you

    Thanks for the info! I'll check with them in the middle of next week.

    They had a fairly deep snow year down there, not really much at sealevel, but at elevation there was a bunch.

    Seward resident here. Early July if you want to ride all the way through. We got more than normal snowfall above about 1500ft this year. If you are in Seward and know where to look up at Lost Lake Trail and see any snow from town than it is not worth it IMHO. Last week in June you should be able to make it up to the high point on the south side but once you drop to the lake away from the southern exposure you will be screwed unless you like pushing your bike through snow.

    Two weeks ago there was still at least 4ft of snow up top. I'm sure it's melting fast, but it's going to be a while.

    Has anyone been up this trail yet lately? I'm really tempted to drive down and check it out this weekend.

    Going to do a group ride from Seward trailhead at 1030 on Sunday.

    Awesome, sounds perfect! Any clothing recomendations? I'm coming down from Anchorage and have never ridden up there.

    Depends on what's forecasted, it's a few thousand feet up, but overcast plus drizzle can vary from a nice relief, to damn cold. If you want to be totally prepared, bring shorts and pants, jersey, long sleeve jersey and light jacket, i always throw in a head warmer cap and some extra gloves. Sometimes I wear my winter spd boots if it looks to be wet, either a lot of dew or some precip. Every weekend I've gotten away with shorts and jersey, but good to be prepared.
