Kenai Trail Report

I've ridden trails on the Kenai for 3 consecutive weekends, sometimes twice in one weekend. The trails we rode were great with the minimal snow fall. With no snow in the forecast this weekend will be excellent for biking.

Resurrection Hope Side: It's great to the first cabin, firm trail, all rideable. The next mile or so is sugary, poor traction, lots of pushing. We turned around 8 miles in.

Lower Russian Lakes: Good to Upper Russian Lake Cabin, we packed it in pretty well on Sunday. Bring bear spray as the bears are feeding on spawned-out salmon. You can expect to share the trail with the bears. Some off camber tricky spots but not icy. It was cool to see lynx, ermine, hare, fox, vole, and yes lots of bear tracks.

Johnson from South End: Narrow and tricky but we packed it in pretty well to the big bridge about 7.5 miles in. It probably got 3-4 inches of new snow on it last weekend, but the trail gets hiking traffic so it might be okay now.

Crescent Lake: Didn't ride this one because the Old Sterling Hwy was glare ice and we didn't want to drive to the trail head. I've heard it's good riding, though.

Go get some!!!
