    Can anybody...

...recommend an alternative to Luce's Lodge? I had been hoping to get my GF out that way this winter thinking that it was a moderately non-threatening winter ride (from the Willow side) with the prospects of Beer and a bed at the end.

I'm thinking the next lodge might be Rebel's Roost, which is a about 10-11 miles further. Haven't been there in years though, so it might be worth a call.

    So, is Luces closed?

Yentna Station is probably your best bet. They are always open. You can stop by anytime of the night and they have free coffee. The trail always goes past their place and it's almost impossible to miss. I'm not sure they have beer though.

The only 2 warnings I have are, sometimes they can be a little unfriendly. It's hit or miss. Other times they are great. Also, everything is super expensive. Luces was always really good deal for food.

Luces is closed, been sold, and is now a private residence.

It'll be interesting to see trail conditions on the lower Yentna this winter without Dave Luce grooming it during and after every storm.

Without a commercial interest in grooming out there, I wonder who will be picking up the ball.
