    Arrowhead 135

There are a few Alaskans headed down to Minnesota this weekend for the Arrowhead 135. Not the greatest snow year for the race, but it looks like it will go off just fine anyway. Best of luck to all of the Alaskans, especially to Tim Berntson and Kevin Breitenbach. Both of them have a good chance of winning the race and will enjoy duking it out with Jay P. Anybody else have any predicitions?

Breitenbach on a fat bike is a scary though. Should be a good battle.

Agreed. Kevin is fast. Way faster than his Su100 results from last year suggest. He was not able to make the prerace meeting (on a Thursday), so he had to start after everyone (which includes all the runners churning up trail) and make his way through.
I've been riding with Tim and can tell you he's in shape.

The race started this morning at 7am, so we should be seeing the first updates soon.

Did they miss Kevin at the checkpoint? Hope he's not having any issues out there. Looks like a pretty strong field.

They made a mistake on Kevin. He was actually the first rider in to the checkpoint. Not off the front, but with a group. Tim Berntson had a flat and lost about seven minutes, but has caught up, and he and Kevin were the first riders into Melgeorges, along with JayP. I believe there were a few others with them, or very close if not, but not certain at this point. It looks really fast-they are about 20min ahead of last year's time in. New to fat tires this year, Eszter Horanyi is tearing up the womens field. Nice work to all of you. We miss seeing your name in there Jeff O.

Wow! Didn't realize Eszter was a female. The spelling, combined with her making it to the first checkpoint 10 minutes behind the leaders, fooled me. Now we just need to figure out what happened to Silverman.

Eszter is 1.5 hrs ahead of record pace. Woman's record gonna get shattered for the third year in a row?

Tim and Kevin are out of the last checkpoint 40 minutes ahead of Oatley's pace from last year, with Petervary right behind. This is the section that broke Buffington(based solely on interpreting the results) last year. It'll be interesting to see who is where at the finish.

If the lead skier keeps up his pace, he'll crush the ski record as well.

Breitenbach beats Berntson in a sprint finish! No record. Must've hit some soft trail on the way back.

It's amazing. After that much total time, they were within 2 minutes of Jeff's winning time from last year.

Great race guys. Alaskans sure know how to make for exciting finishes.

Congrats to both. The two of them left the last checkpoint together and hammered it home. Way to represent AK. Look forward to hearing all about it.
