    Archangel Valley ride?

Does anyone know the conditions of Archangel Valley for riding this weekend?

Im gonna say you will need shorts and a tee-shirt, maybe some sunblocker considering the clear skies and sunshine right now.

Cool. I just posted a ride on the Meetup Bike Me Anchorage group. Sunday at 11 a.m., Archangel Valley.

I rode it last weekend and it was hard packed and fast. There hasn't been any new snow to speak of since early January.

Rode into the Gold Mint trail yesterday. A little technical in spots, but back about 6 miles and could have kept going. I had my old dog though, and 12 miles was pushing it.

    Awesome out there.

I joined up with the original poster here on Sunday and did the ride, starting at about 11a. We went up the road to just past the gate. It was hard packed and icy, with that evil thin layer of water on top of the ice. I had studded Dillingers on and was fine. She didn't have studs and had to white knuckle the downhill. Shockingly, neither of us fell.

It was a fun ride regardless, sunny and gorgeous:

Nice. Was there a trail packed down and rideable beyond that big rock in the middle of the pic? To the Lane hut perhaps? That would be cool getting there too.

I don't know. That was the end of the trail for us. It was a lot of hike-a-bike given the ice and lack of studs on one of the bikes. Neither of us had been there in the winter, and we knew the downhill was going to be "interesting" given the ice.
