Abominable Snow Series

Welcome to Chain Reaction Cycles - Alaska's Premier Bike Shop

Anyone else going to these races? I'm signed up for this Saturday, sounds like a fun series of races that will be a shorter distance. They have a cruiser class too that's a little easier.

Is there a course map or route description anywhere? Where do you see the distance?

when I talked to them a few days ago they were saying 2-3 laps for open class and shorter for cruiser class. I think I'm going to do the cruiser class. sign up so I have someone to race against!

Each lap is 4 miles, no big hills, should be more of a fun race.

Tank trail to the Moose Ridge Loop. I'm guessing 2-3 laps for Open class. About 8-12 miles.

Is there any chance that this series will make its way to Fairbanks? Kinda sucks that it may all be down south.

This particular series is being put on by a local bike shop and set to benefit a local Anchorage trail building organization. Fairbanks just needs someone or some group to put races together to get something going up your way. Hopefully this will just be the start of more regular races around the State.

Awesome, there was 18 signed up last night now there is 27! Can't wait for tomorrow! Hope conditions hold out to be good. Wish I had time to pre ride the course. Never been on that side of the the airstrip road.

Over 40 people ended up showing up! What a blast. This was my first bike race ever and it was so much fun! Hopefully the next race will have the course posted sooner so I can make time to pre ride it.

No sir, any bike is welcome although it would have been a very tough trail for anyone without fat tires. One guy did show up and complete the course with studded skinnier tires.

I had a blast! I was pretty happy with my finishing time even though I got my butt handed to me! Looking forward to the next race on the 14th of January!

I'm guessing it will be a last minute call depending on trail conditions?? Looks like a faster course than #1 thats for sure!

Brown bear and parts of Speedway are hike a bike right now. Moose Meadows and behind the ball fields up to the tour trail are in good condition.

Get out there and pre-ride!

A.S.S. #2 was awesome! I'm loving the single track sections. The hill climbs were rough but I don't think they were too much. I need to figure out how to keep my toes warmer though, at -20F they were starting to hurt after 5miles.

Yes, great event. My toes were never an issue. Here's my system: Flat pedals. Largest size Lake MX300 boots ( i am a diminutive size 10), wearing a thin smartwool bike sock, encased in a RBH designs VB sock, covered with a Neos over-boot. And yes, there is room for a chemical warmer in there - but couldn't find one Sat morning, and was fine without.
