    external BB on skyhawk?

I've been looking at cranks for my skyhawk, and most come with external BB's. I've searched the forums and they say it can be done, but has anyone gone from internal to external bb on a skyhawk?

one place says it needs to be "faced" another says don't worry about it?

    what do you guys/gals think?

    thanks

I used an external BB on my proto test Skyhawk. It will work perfectly with no problems. The shell is a 68mm shell so 68mm or 73mm external BB's work.

Ideally you would face the BB shell to make certain the outboard bearings fit flush and perfect, but in the real world it will probably be just fine without facing it.

    Hope that helps!

Is this also true of the Sabre? I'm interested in upgrading cranks over the winter.

OK, I've found the cranks I want to buy. ( I think) using the 8 speed cassette, do I want 32 teeth or 34 teeth chain ring? I ride in Michigan, so no mountains!! but some good hills. Right now I only use the middle ring of original cranks.

also, what's the cheapest tools I need to remove the original bb and install external bb?

    thanks
