    Airborne Pathogen

So I'm sitting here eating Chinese food and looking at the latest edition of Mountain Bike Action magazine.

Opposite page 42 is a great shot of the Pathogen. BTW: Caroline Buchanan also looks smoking.

According to the ad framesets "coming soon".

BDF: Any timeframe. Also not wishing to infringe on copyrights etc. I opted to not take a pic of the ad. Could you post a couple of shots?

Lastly any chance of us Airborne owners purchasing items like Caroline is wearing?

I'm thinking they are limited production but thought I'd ask.

Good question... I love the look of that bike from what I've seen. Going to have to move somewhere where I can ride downhill.

Thanks! The kit Caroline is wearing was custom made for her by a company called "Vie 13". They made a few kits for our sponsored riders and our employees. They aren't for public consumption unfortunately.

Our graphics department has new jersey designs on their list of things to do but have been too busy with bike stuff and web stuff to get to them. Hopefully we'll have some at some point this year.

I'll ask for a jpg of the ad and post it up here when I get it, thanks~

Oh, and timeframe-wise it will probably be late August to early September when the frames are in the warehouse and available to sell.

We are doing something different with the framesets than other companies do: they will come with the Vector HLR shock from X-Fusion, and along with the shock the customer gets three different springrates so that they can fine tune the ride based on weight/terrain/riding style.

We'll be releasing pricing info soon~!

Yes. And a one carat cubic zirconium looks "just like" a one caret D flawless diamond but they are quite different.

You can only have so many "looks" to a frame. Maybe the geometry is similar as well but I could not find specs on the Pathogen.

Anyway, they are different bikes when you install groupset etc.

I do agree they look similar.

Yes, I see that. lol. You just might have better luck with someone you own age!! Just a thought.

We are way off the subject. Let's leave the young girl alone. You are scaring me and probably the Airborne guys.

The bike is bada$$. Looks like they have a great eisee to promote it. I have to agree with hrbib21.

i've been watching this "replacement" for the taka for some time. Wished I picked up a Taka since I live close to Mountain Creek bike park. They were actually just there but did not know about it, wished Airborne let us know on FB (I've been a fan on FB but didn't see anything until afterwards).

But it is odd because looks like 3 different colors, will there be options? Is on the frameset, one complete base bike, one XO-like model (like Goblin has 3 colors?).

And what about the Toxin? Different bike?

    I need to know!!!

We posted that we were going to Mountain Creek before we went!!

The Toxin is a 7inch bike and is different......

    That's all for now.

I also saw that ad and instantly dug it!!! It does remind me of the Transition TR frame, overall a badass looking frame to be sure...Can this frame be run with a single crown fork? May be selling my beloved Yeti AS-X in order to try something new for next year. I will be watching for updates and specs.

Very curious now about the Pathogen.

Airborne Pathogen Prototype - Pit Bits, US National Championships Angel Fire, NM - Mountain Biking Pictures - Vital MTB

Price under 2K? Is there a spec/build kit sheet floating around? I want to see more about this bike as it looks very promising for the price.

    That's a mis-quote. The FRAMESET is under $2K.

Anyone get their hands on one of these? Hard to find real world feedback on quality of the product and most importantly how the thing rides!

Frame with shock on the Airborne site for $994, has me wondering.

How do you like yours and would you buy again?

Been riding one for nearly 3 seasons (same frame entire time).

I like mine, lots. (Be warned, my opinion may be regarded as biased, since I'm affiliated.)

    After some reflection over the last couple years, my opinion on a few things;

Frame design and operation is right on. Proven single pivot, works great with the X-Fusion shock. That's a pretty keen shock by the way. Very comparable to Fox.

Geometry is middle of the road/average, if that means anything. It's not overly slack, nor too twitchy.

Accepts wide 2.5 tires. They were Michelen's, which run on the large side. I hear you can run a 27.5 in there, but only 2.4 max I think.

Don't know what else I can say. BB height is also middle of the road, not too low, not too high.

I wouldn't go so far to call it playful (at first), but you get used to it really quick. It's solid affordable entry in to a nice, new dh frame. don't have to buy used, and you get a warranty to boot.

I'd say they run just a *bit* on the small side. I'm 5'8", and ride a medium, but if I were to buy another one, I would go the next size up.

Here's some of the torture I've put it through... Still going strong.

Well, after buying my Pathogen frame in November, and thinking of the day I can finally post on this thread... It's done and ready to ride. In case anyone is thinking of this frame and were curious about the cost to build, I got virtually every part on sale or clearance, including the frame (which I bet is probably the new price from now on) and my total cost was just under $2800.

I finally got to use my Pathogen for the first time this weekend at Highland. First, I'm not a good or fast or really confident DH rider. I'm slow, 44 years old, took up MTBing about 4 years ago and will likely go DH riding now 3 times a year. So that's where I'm coming from and the level of my experience on a DH bike.

The bike seems really heavy to me (I've rented a Status a couple of times before Sunday). I didn't exactly get the best components (but the most affordable), so weight wasn't an issue when building. But even in my neophyte state, I could tell the bike was pretty heavy and not all that playful. By the end of my day I was doing some jumps, although I bet what I call a jump and others might differ quite a bit.

Like Jerry said above, I also felt the bike was smaller than what I wanted. I'm also 5'8", and have a medium. again, being new at DHing, I'm not sure if this is how it's supposed to feel, but I don't recall feeling cramped on the rental Status.

I sort of wanted a DH bike, a desire to build a bike for the first time, and something that wouldn't break the bank. The pathogen's marked down price was perfect for what I wanted to do this past winter.
