Rubena tires coming soon
After reating the Rubena Scylla and Kratos 29er Tires | Mountain Bike Review review, I sent a question to the rubena usa distributor about thier 650b plans and they promptly replied back that they will be showing two 650b tires at Eurobike and Interbike this fall. Pavel @ rubena also says in the comments:
Hi from Rubena, Czech Republic.
Following the review I would like assure everyone that you will see Scylla (27,5 x 2,25) and Charybdis (2,00 x 27,5) introduced at the Eurobike show in Germany as well as at Interbike in Las Vegas in a few weeks.
Generally tires are available either in black (single compound) or Grey Line (dual compound). They are well tested in harsh conditions such as South African Cape Epic race. Epic proven combination is to have Kratos in the front and Scylla on the rear wheel.
Enjoy the rides with Rubena! And wait for more exciting new products such as freeride tires, road racing tires, BMX tires,… Many of them are already with our riders at the Olympic games in London. You can watch Rubena riders such as Rebecca Henderson (Australian, MTB XC U23), Dan McConnell (Australian, MTB XC Elite) both Champions of Australia and Oceania 2012 (Rebecca finished in the 2nd place overall in the 2012 World Cup U23), or Romana Labounkova (4X 2011 European Champion),etc.
Both look like racing XC tires to me (everybody seems to be following Racing Ralphs now?), AFAIK Jaroslav Kulhavy rides them too. I am hoping for more aggressive threads to come.

Very cool. I like the looks of that tread.

According to this, Czech and Australian Cyclists Will Ride Rubena Tires
Kulhavy won gold on Rubena tires but I have no solid confirmation.

Unfortunately they are both more geared for XC ... which is kinda pissing me off tbh, most frame and components for 650b are being targeted for the mid to long travel bikes yet tire manufacturers are pumping out XC tires. What gives ?!

Hello everyone, Matt from the US Rubena distributor here to answer a couple of queries:
@StiHacka: Kulhavy did win gold, unfortunately not on Rubena due to his contract with the Big S. The other CZ riders who were on Rubena finished 12th and 14th. Not too bad either.
@danielsilva: I would call the Charybdis a little closer to a trail tire than the pure XC of the Scylla. It is lacking a bit in width though and it's being worked on. There are ongoing conversations about putting a tire like the Kratos into the 650b mix. They're just getting into the 650b mix, so it's going to take a minute or two to suss out the right mix of treads. Don't despair Daniel, we're working on it for guys like you.

No problem. I was a little disappointed at the news though, would have been a nice little boost for the brand. Oh well, there's always Rio.

First of all, thank you for replying.
I used a Charybdis on my 26er for a long time and it's a great front tire for aggressive xc/mild trail, i used it to replace a Rocket Ron since Rubena tires are easily available and are a lot cheaper than Schwalbe tires while offering the same characteristics.
The Kratos is a good tire but a Triton with XGC compound would be much better
