Got a response from Nancy about the 650b carbon rims. She says they've started making the mold and it will be 30mm wide and should be available in August.
Does anyone know what is the target weight of the 30mm wide carbon 650b rim? Will that be heavy duty AM rim or will the weight of the rim be competitive for XC use as well?

Their 30mm wide 29er rim is ~380-400 grams if that offers any insite
The linked ebay wheels appear to have a rim from a different manufacturer than what was linked in the first post of this thread, Light-Bicycle. The u-shaped inside well of the ebay rims could convert tubeless with ghetto (split-tube) home made rim strips with good reliability, but without very tight TR inside bead centering, tape or flat rubber conversion strips would probably not be very resistant to burping.
I've been emailing Nancy at Light-Bicycle who has replied within a day each time, with good communication. She says their 30mm wide 650b rims will become available sometime in August. I'm suggesting they also make 35 mm DH use rims in 26 inch and 650b. A carbon fiber DH rim could be as light as a narrow XC aluminum rim, maybe 450 grams, and be more stiff and durable. For trail riders a wide rim has advantages for rocky conditions, able to run much lower pressures without loosing stability compared to narrower rims.

Yeah, these definitely aren't like the L-B ones we're waiting on. But if I didn't run tubeless, I would swoop these up. The 29er and roadie rims from this company get good reviews in the other forums.

They are fairly narrow though, only 20mm inner width.
Any updates on these rims? I looked at the site, and saw they are still testing=== but just wondering if anyone has been in touch with them recently..
They are taking orders now. You will need to email them and they will send you an invoice and you pay via PayPal. I Put in my order already. It is supposed to ship end of the month.

I have as well. Right now they're only selling the 370g "XC" version. Eagerly awaiting some shipping info..
I am running Notubes Crest - Are these carbom rims any good? I only run tubeless... will they work?
Aloha, I can't speak for the Crest comparison. I can speak for the 26" Wider (AM) rim that Light-Bicycle produces. I've been running the rim on the rear of my Turner for several months now. Even had it out for several weeks of trail riding out in Steamboat Springs and Crested Butte. I've laid out a complete report with pictures in the Wheels/Tires forum section. I love it.
I've ordered and paid for two 650b rims. They said it should ship in about 10 days but we will see. It takes a bit of time to get it here in Hawaii as it has to go to California to clear customs before ending up here in Hawaii. I'll post up a report as I get the rim etc.
Planning my build of the 27.5 LB wheels for my AM bike. I will be using Hadley hubs, either DT Swiss Comp or Wheelsmith DB 14 spokes and 12mm alloy nips. Problem is the calculator is stating spoke lengths of 272mm and 273mm spokes, but they are only available in 272mm and 274mm as far as I understand. Can I use 272 for all? Help please…
Yes, should be no problem. There is about 2 turns of a nipple per mm spoke depth.
I "cheat" and use 16mm nipples for no worries in spoke length over 4 or 5 mm difference in calculated length. The weight difference is negligible overall, and I like the heavy duty look.... Although 16mm nipples have not been more durable than 12mm. I've always found alloy nipples might begin to fail after 3 or more years of hard use including wet and muddy conditions, from corrosion of the nipple's flange from water trapped inside the rim, or an aluminum rim will fail before an alloy nipple fails from too much spoke tension or sucking a stick or derailleur. I've never had alloy threads fail in 15 years of building my own wheels.
BTW, I've order a pair of these rims too. And will be building them with Hadley hubs and DT 2.0/1.8 DB Competition spoke too.

Thanks derby. Just so I understand correctly. Using all 272mm with 12mm nips will work correctly. Just double checking as I am a noob at wheelbuilding. I do not what to order the wrong thing. Also, any recommendations for where to order Wheelsmith DB14 272mm black spokes? Only place I have found online is Zen Cyclery.
