Will receive my new Carve SL 29, can I use a normal rear sprocket?

The bike comes with 32x20, I want to change the rear to 14t since I wont be riding many hills right now. I ride road bikes so I have a couple of rear cassettes sitting around, several with 14, 15, 16 cogs.

Can I directly swap the 20t cog that comes stock on the carve sl 29 and one of the 14t cog I have from a 10spd cassette?

I assume that it should be okay since the carve sl 29 uses a single speed conversion and has all the spacers already.

Will this be okay to run with the stock chain?

    Thanks a lot.

According to the specs, the Carve SL comes with a 10 speed chain stock, so you should be OK. You might be OK...

If the freehub is aluminum you should run wide base cogs. If it's steel, no problem running normal cogs. One thing is that it is possible to break/fold over a normal cog on a SS. A small cog like a 14 should be OK but I've cracked larger cogs.

It's steel. I'd use a SS cog instead of your cassette cog because of the ramping and gating on the teeth. Any misalignment of the chain line might lead to derailment.

When i first built a single speed, i used a normal cassette 16t. After smacking the ground hard, i learned it wasn't a good idea.
