wider tires for 2008 X Cal

I'm looking for new, slightly wider tires for my 08 XCal, I'm still running the stock Bontrager XDX 2.1", with the bontrager tubeless strips and stan's. I'm thinking of going to a Kenda Slant Six 2.2", does anyone have any real world experience of the amount of width i'd gain by going this route, I think the Bonty's are a narrow 2.1 and i'm hoping the Kenda's are a wide 2.2". I'm looking for a higher volume tire, with a little more width to smooth out the rear end of this bike, I've used this tire on a 26" HT set up and was happy with it's performance, but it was a 2.35" width that is not available in the 29" size

Back when I had one I was able to fit Rampages in the back, a 2.35 tire. There wasn't much room, but they worked.

Don't know how much width you'd get with the kenda's, but I do remember the XDX seemed a bit narrow.
I'm looking forward to regretting this.......
