Using 3x10 derailleur with 2x10 crank?

Can I set the limit screws far enough so that you can't shift past the larger ring or do you just have to know not to shift again once you're there?

Shimano XT 3x10 derailleur with 2x10 crank.

The bike is for my gf so I'm just trying to set it up for her.

I know its possible, its on the bike I just bought

Trying to determine if there's a way to keep from being able to over shift past the biggest ring, which is acting like the middle of a 3x setup

Just tighten you "H" screw down where it won't shift over. It should work fine and if you do try to shift up the shifter will just feel solid.

    This^^^^^

Dial in the high limit screw on the front derailleur.
15mm is a second-best solution to a problem that was already solved.
