tubeless tire starts seeping fluid - trash it or ride it?

I had a Schwalbe Nobby Nic tire start seeping fluid near one of the center knobs so I replaced the tire and kept it as a spare out of fear of having a blowout. I know have about 20 rides on the new replacement Schwalbe Nobby Nic and it is starting to seep fluid right in the middle of the casing. There is still quite a bit of life left in the knobs. Should I keep riding it or trash it? Is this just a problem with this particular tire? Any other recommendations for the back of my Sultan. I have a Schwalbe Hans Dampf on the front and haven't had any problems with that.

Just sounds like you tore it or sliced it. I have seen people Gorilla Glue them from the inside and get more life from them. The Hans is definitely a more robust tire and usually the rear gets more damage.

I recently purchased a f/s bike which came stock w/ NNs and both are seeping as well, mostly around the parting line (center line of the tire). I haven't noticed any significant air loss or performance problems, so I'm keeping mine on. The Stans in the tire is most likely doing its job when it weeps out and I don't think there's a safety issue really.
I love it when a plan comes together.

I've got Maxxix Ignitors and they seep all the time. From the sidewalls and even a bit at the rim bead. But, they hold air fine and haven't bubbled or anything else.

I'd say ride 'em until something happens.

Interesting....sounds like I'm not the only one. I think I'll use a different rear tire this time around...

I just mounted up a paper thin POS Kenda SB8 and no leaking at all, despite the note about sealant wrecking the tire.

Ride it till the traction goes away. I do and have never had a problem.

I replaced it with a specialized ground control 29x2.3. I will keep the 2 Nobby Nic's as back-ups....or sell em on craigslist for 10 bucks each.

There is nothing wrong with your tire. I think every tire I've set up tubeless has seeped sealant at some point, and I've never had a tire deformity or blowout.

I'd suggest keeping them, and riding them. Otherwise you're throwing your money away.

If you don't see a gash or tear in the tire, then I think your fine. I had the same problem with the non-snakeskin schwalbe tires, and a few maxxis/Kenda tires...but nothing yet with my SS versions. It would happen from time to time...more often when they were brand new. Sometimes would happen on my way to the trail, and would need to pump them back up. I was always worried there was a problem with the tire, but always sealed back up. Does the sealant not do its job? Any chance your not running enough sealant?

If its happening in the same spot over and over again, I'm sure you could use some super glue or a patch inside the tire. But it's up to you...if you don't feel safe on it, I can't argue with your judgement. Gotta trust your gear, or it will drive you crazy.

If you're in the Bay Area and can pick them up I will sell them to you, but it's not worth my time to ship.

Any tires not do this? Are there certain brands that are more prone? My paper thin SB8 is still clean and aired up after several days.

Totally normal, my Specy tires (4 of them) have all done it. In fact, all of the tires that I have set up tubeless (that is many!) have done it. They do it more when you first set them up and as time goes on, the casing gets sealed, and it slows. Nothing to worry about, just ride

The specialized control casing tires don't do it when new. That tire I posted has pretty scuffed up sidewalls. If you got rocks in your area, it happens.

Pump it up to 60 psi and roll the sealant around, wipe the weeping sealant off, roll the sealant around again, wipe it off, lower the pressure back to riding psi and carry on with your life.

They most certainly do...I have 2 that weep when I first set them up...it decreases over time.

I personally wouldn't go over 40 psi. Blow offs suck. My RaRa SS weeped a little between the tread blocks. I don't think the SS casing extends around the tire. Heavier tires seem to weep less but some brands are more prone to do so. My NN SS didn't weep but it has low miles.

I've been running Schwalbe TL ready tires for almost 3 years now and they all do that, some more that others; however, the snakeskin tires do not leak at all on the side are are only a few grams more. I would keep the nobbynics for the front and go with a snakeskin in the back. They're now making rocket rons and racing ralphs with snakeskin. With time the small punctures in the tread with start to leak. To conserve sealant, just deflate your tires when done riding. Also I've repaired two large punctures with a regular auto tireplug kit. You just have to trim the plugs to fit. Bombproof for almost a year of Pisgah.

Aack! Yes, sorry - 40 psi. Forgot about Schwalbe and blow off.

Ive been riding a couple Ground Control tires that have been weeping through the sidewalls and have had no issues. One of them also has a couple good cuts that I've sealed up with Gorilla glue and they've been leak free for almost a year of hard riding.

Do you mean S works? I've had, I think, 7 or 8 tires with the control casing and none of them wept when new. Captain control, fast trak control and ground control models.
