Easton EA90 is what my bike sports. I like the wide front clamp for carbon bars and while I love stupid light its not and plenty strong enough for whatever myself or the trail throws at it. With titanium bolts its a 130 grams.
Bringing this thread back....Recently got fitted to my bike and the tech said that my stem is a bit too long (100mm) and recommends either 80-90mm to give a slight bend in my arms.
I'm looking at either the Thompson X4 or FSA SL-K. Other than price, is there much difference between the two (durability, fit/finish, etc)? I currently have a CB Iodine 2 stem with CB Colbalt 11 bars.
I have been on 3t stems lately. I have 3. The arx pro is cheap and black and white. The arx team is more expensive with Ti bolts. Its black and red. 130/120grams and work just fine.
The WCS clamps dont look stable enough for my liking. Whats the point of the giant faceplate and 2 bolts right next to each other on the top and bottom? Pretty sure its looks.
I currently have the kcnc sc wing stem but i think it is too much light for what i do with it.
I have a 100mm hardtail but we often ride some xc agressive trails and i like to shred it, and adding the fact that i'm overweight i need a strong, reliable, durable stem.
The smartest choise will be a syntace but i really dont know if i can like that stem. Is kind of ugly.
Can someone tell me an alternative for it? Is the ritchey wcs c260 strong as the syntace?
I'm also in the stem market. I'm looking to go Ti, unless anyone can say that is not a good idea (besides price). Only XC, fire road + occassional DH STrack.
Just purchased Syncros AM stem for $11.99 from CycleSport. This may not be the best in quality but it is certainly an inexpensive way to try various lengths or jump up to 31.8 standard.
RaceFace Deus has been my favorite lately, but mostly because it's nice and shiny.
I'm a pretty big guy (in girth), and I've only ever had one cheapo stem develop a tiny crack. I've never really noticed any flex.
I just picked up a Thomson stem at a swap meet for super cheap. But really, I'm not super motivated to install it. I don't really like the disc/clamp arrangement of the older stem, it has a super tall stack height (that I don't think actually adds anything) and it's super heavy compared to the other stems out there. I know a guy who cracked two of them, and he rides XC. On the plus side, it is made in the USA.
