I was about to service my Crank Borthers Mallet DH/Race, however the end cap it too soft and it wasn't loosening. How do I safely remove the end cap without further damaging it. Also where can I buy the end cap?

End caps here - J L Titanium End Cap Nut for Crank Brothers Egg Beater Candy Acid Mallet Black | eBay

Try and get something the length of the whole slot, this will dissipate the pressure you apply to the cap along the whole slot, reducing the chance of damage. (Use a screwdriver with a large head)

    I tried but didn't work.

I emailed crank brothers regarding this problem, they advice me to put the pedal in a vice then use a flat head and hit it with a hammer, after I do it I should contact the local distributor in Australia to purchase replacement parts.

The local distributor in Australia suggest I purchase the egg beater 3, since it has a metal end cap and use it for my mallet dh/race. Both of the crank brothers in usa and Australia are retarded. **** Crank Brothers I'll might move back to shimano or even try the time atac dh pedals.

I suggest to keep hitting it with a hammer.

If you like the crank brother's basic mechanism (spring loaded bar that keeps the cleats), time pedals use the same basic idea and they actually make a durable pedal that keeps going year after year (like shimano pedals, just a good alternative).

    You're turning black metallic.

Does the time cleat last longer as well? I just had this mallet dh /race for 3 months and it has weird noise and the spindle isn't smooth.
