    Schwalbe Magic Mary

The big news here is an aggressive 29" tire with a Super Gravity casing. Assuming it lasts more than a month and a half, anyway. Post on PB here.

What makes you think they'll last more than a month and a half?

I've had my Hans Dampf on front for almost a year now and it's still in great shape. Been through 3 Ralphs and 2 Nics out back in that span. So annoying.

I assume you recognized that was sardonic. How has your HD lasted that long? Both front and rear, side knobs were undercut over half way through and peeling in less than 3 months for me. Nonetheless, I hear good things about the SG casing, and I'm excited to see another offering. I'm quite satisfied with Minions for now, but it's fun to experiment.

Definitely understood the tone...I just wish they weren't so damn good out of the box so I could move on to a different tire/brand.

I think my HD has lasted so long because a lot of my rides are XC. Every 5th ride or so I actually use it for what it's designed to do which makes the extra weight on the XC rides worth it.

Wish they were making it in the normal evo casing as well as the super gravity. I don't need the additional protection as all my riding is root and mud rather than rocks. Now in a dither as to whether i want to lug around 1.1kg of tyre when things get wet in the autumn.

Also - as above...been riding my dampf just over a year in my terrain and side knobs are just starting to rip. Like to think i ride the thing relatively aggressively.

My previous Schwalbe stuff lasted only 200 miles on the rear, and the front still has a good amount of life. I also hope these last a bit, they look amazing...

Some of them definitely wear ridiculously fast. I run 7 Ralph's (combination of EVO and SS) and 1 Nic... setup tubeless w/ Stan's goo on trails, urban assaults, commutes (dirt & pavement). One of my Ralph 2.25 rear tires essentially turned into a slick quite rapidly (it developed ~10 piss spots in various locations around the tire within weeks of when I mounted it). All of the other ones show little tread wear after a couple of years. I rode over 3,400 miles on 6 of them last year and hope to exceed that this year.

in the ~1000grm+ 29er tire class , might as well add a couple others

    - WTB Vigilante TCS, UST bead , 1010 gr 2.3
    - Maxxis DHF Minion 2.5 ~1000+, exo, TR
    - On-One Chunky Monkey 900-1000 2.4
    - conti Trail King 29 2.4 1100gr
    - Geax Sturdy 29 2.25 UST/TR, ~900grm

other than that, looks like a dirt bike tire, good to have choices .

My understanding is that Schwalbe's Super Gravity casing is not the same as a reinforced sidewall like Snakeskin or EXO. But I'm not an authority if one of the tire guys on the board wants to chime in on that and correct me. At the very least, I've read that Super Gravity tires are being used in WC DH races and that says a lot about their ability to handle abuse. That's what I'm interested in: a Super Gravity tire on my heavy-duty smashy wheelset, and a pair of faster rolling EXO tires on a medium-duty wheelset.

I'll add the Specialized Butcher and Bontrager FR3 to that list. Probably on the low end of the beef scale but they carve corners like mad and have held up remarkably well to the same abuse that destroyed two Hans Dampfs in less than 200 miles.
