RockShox Reba RL 29 Dual Air - Remote Lockout?

    Hi everyone,

I just pulled the trigger on the Airborne Goblin 29er. I'm very excited about getting a mtn bike (tri guy) and doing some cross country races. I'm interested in getting a remote lockout, something comparable to the Poplock. The bike comes with the RockShox Reba RL 29 Dual Air. Can someone tell me all the parts I need in order to add the remote lockout?

Do I need the entire kit:

    Remote Upgrade Kit--PopLoc | SRAM

    Or just the remote:

    PopLoc | SRAM

    Thanks!

Bummer that's what I thought, do you have any idea how difficult the process is?

You need the whole kit. The lockout version of the kit has a return spring for the compression knob. The spring can't be added to the non-lockout version. You need the whole new damper.

If you have a Reba RL then you just need the PopLoc remote - I have a 2011 Reba RL (which comes already setup for a lockout) and have added the PopLoc kit (which is very simple to install). If you want to do it on the cheap just use an old thumb friction shifter instead ;-)

I was under the impression that the Goblin came with a remote lockout already - is this not the case?

The Goblin does not come with remote lock out. That's great to hear. Can you take a look and confirm?

Actually, now that I look at the pics it might not be setup for a remote lockout (I thought the RL series were all setup for a remote).

If you have the bike now just look at the blue knob on the right fork leg. If it's setup for a remote lockout you can turn it by hand but it will snap back to the open position (meaning it has the return spring inside). You will also see it has a cable groove on the knob and a little allen bolt to secure the remote lockout cable.

If in doubt just call or email Airborne.

Mine does not spring back... You have to put it back manually. I have a two month old goblin for reference.

Ah - in that case it will definitely require the upgrade kit, my bad. Still not a hugely complicated thing to install (but obviously more $$). I will say that I definitely like having the remote lockout, I think it's a worthwhile upgrade.

I just had this conversion done, different bike same fork. It needed the whole kit. There's nowhere on the stock damper to connect the remote.
I'm enjoying my childhood way too much to ever give it up.

Did you end up upgrading? I can't seem to find the entire kit. Do you have a link?

If you search for "reba poploc" on amazon, that should get you going in the right direction.

Bump again... I've got the remote equipped poplock reba, (with cable and poplock control new/unused in bag). Never installed the control. I'm riding the bike all the time in unlocked position. Sorta sucks on pavement. Anybody wanna swap the guts of their non-remote reba system for a cable operated remote?

Ouch, big ouch. It turns out there are lots and lots of different models of Rockshox Reba shocks, and with all the different model years, compatibility is a huge concern.

This transaction is way more complicated than I would have liked.. I'm, thinking now the only way to make this work is to narrow up the production year window to 2005-2008 AND have both front forks in one location, on one workbench in one workshop both at the same time, with a handy dandy vernier caliper at hand.

As a result, I posted up this to my local area forum... Anybody with 2005-2008 Rockshox Reba want Remote Poplock?

Photos and more details are there.

2010 and up Reba has the newer Xloc hydraulic lockout dampener....much better than the older Poploc cable-actuated system and lighter too.
