    Ripley Fork

I'm agonizing over fork selection for a new XL Ripley. I want the bike to be as capable as possible on the downs, but do not want a wandering front end on steep climbs or under hard cornering. I demoed a L with a Fox F32 120 and while it was a bit too small a frame, it climbed well and descended ok. My current choices:

    2014 Fox F32 120
    2014 Fox F34, 140
    2014 Fox Talas 120-140

The RS Pike also was a potential contender, but I understand that it wont be out until August.

I have previously owned a Talas 95-120 and was satisfied with it's performance, however, the small-bump compliance was lacking. I have read that the 2014 Talas has improved reduced stiction and better overall performance, but this may just be marketing...

I'm 180 pounds and ride in southern CA. I typically ride as fast as I can pedal, am not the smoothest rider, and tend to bash through things: this is what made me interested in the F34.

I have a 140mm 51 offset Pike in my garage, so they are shipping. I would really try to get one if you can. Very supple and A-C height would be about 17mm less than a Fox 34 140 so you keep the front end nice and low.
