    RD Cage length confusion...?

I'm keen to up grade to a x9 type 2 derailleur. It's recommended that a 2x10 should run a medium but most are running a long..I have a Kona hardtail. Any help for a newbie please.

Thanks-I'd been searching threads. That's the best one.

Without knowing your ring and cassette sizes, that's the best I could do. But my stock 2x10 gearing on my Bandit 29 came with a medium cage

Have a 11-36 cassette and unsure as to 22/36 or 24/38 but guess they both give the long hanger answer. Was just wondering as the Sram site says medium for 2x10! Guess it's not always the way..cheers

I think the SRAM site is conservative. I'm running a med. cage rear derailleur on a 2x10 setup (11-36, 24/38) with no problems.

I'm running a short-cage SRAM on a 2x10 (24 / 32 front, 11-36 rear) on an FS bike. Granted, if I shift into the smallest gear on the front and rear, the derailleur is folded up and there is a little bit of slack in the chain (I avoid doing that). So I wouldn't recommend the short cage on a 2x10, but the medium should have more than enough capacity for the typical 2x10.
