    pedal/shoe compatibility

I recently ordered these shoes: Shimano WM51 Women's SPD Shoe > Apparel > Shoes and Footwear > Women's Footwear | Jenson USA Online Bike Shop

and these pedals: Shimano PD-R540 Pedals > Components > Pedals, Cleats, Toe Clips, Straps > Pedals | Jenson USA Online Bike Shop

I should have done more research, it seems these 2 products are not compatible with each other. Is my only hope to return the pedals and purchase SPD pedals? Are spd pedals okay for road bikes? these items are for my mother's road bike, she requested road pedals thats why i went with the PD pedals.

the shimano road pedals are better for long distance riding because they have bigger cleats. the shoes that work with road pedals are usually horrible to walk around in. is she going to be using these specifically for long rides on pavement with few stops? is so, keep the pedals and change the shoes to a road pedal-compatible shoe.

if she wants something more casual with a shoe that will allow her to walk around a bit, keep the shoes and get mountain pedals.

You are correct no worky worky.

The pedal is 3 hole Look (here).

The shoe is SPD, two holes closer together (here).

Or return everything and buy from your LBS. They would have educated you about purchasing two incompatible products. They could also help you pick the correct product for your needs.

If these are a gift for your mom and she asked for road pedals, I would return the shoes and get road shoes. I would not consider SPD a road pedal.

Plus she may actually want to try on shoes in a store. I ordered a pair of Shimano shoes and they were way, way off in sizing compared to what I normally wear
