    Negative 17 stems

    Hi All,

I'm currently building my first big wheeled bike and wanted some help on what stem to use.

I ride a reasonably aggressive position and will most likely need a negative 17 degree stem.

I'm assuming there are plenty around who have solved this dilemma for me, so what options do i have in 90mm length?

    Syntace
Syntace - this one comes in a flip flop -17/17 in 90mm.

You can get a -17/17 Thomson, but not shorter than 100mm.

Specialized has a bunch of funky stems with shims which allow you to dail in some severe negatvity - even in the shorter lengths. In fact, you could get your bike all set up like Kulhavy's (120mm length with a -21 degree)...

    Dalby Forest, Yorkshire

Or fellow MTBR.com member Maon's Dos Niner with negative stem...

    Maon's Silver Dos

Just don't slide off the front and get run over by your own front wheel.

Ritchey makes their new C260 stems in -25 degrees, which I have on my 29er.

I have a 110mm -17 Zipp stem on my bike, it looks like they go all the way down to 70 though

Take that +17 stem you have in your garage, and flip it upside down. Boom. -17. Works with 12 degree stems too. But ... warning... Won't work with a 0 degree stem.

I have a Zipp Service Corse SL, it's a pretty solid piece. Need to go slightly longer so I'm debating the Syntace or a 3T....

Origin 8 makes them; they're around $25. They even make them for 25.4 handlebars, but not too many people need that.

Do a search on EBay for "stem 17 90mm".

Oh my neck hurts just looking at those pictures. I wish that damn 5 year old hadn't bet me I couldn't do a front flip on that trampoline years ago. I need a do-over.

Bontrager RL and RXL stems are a lightweight decent deal.
