Maxxis tires actual vs. advertised width

Do Maxxis tires tend to not measure up to their stated width? I ask because the stock 2.4" Ardent front and 2.2" Ikon rear on my Yeti SB-95 measure 2.18" and 2.02", respectively, with my digital calipers. Perhaps it's the narrow'ish rims (DT Swiss XR 400)? Tires are currently at 30 psi with tubes (as I understand it, Maxxis uses tubes and 60 psi for measuring width).

It is nominal size. Actual size is always different, with every brand and model, and varies with the rim and pressures used.

I've had Ardent 2.4 EXO and Ikon 2.2 EXO tires on my Flows. Both measured to size after having some time to "mature". They were run tubeless and measured at the widest point. Now, my Purgatory 2.3's? Those will likely need a Large Marge rim to measure the suggested width.

Maxxis measures size @ 60 PSI as you stated on a 28mm wide rim, so yes, in general the size will not be what's stamped on the side - I asked about this when I first started testing for them and that's what I was told IIRC. That being said, my 2.4" Ardent, tubeless on a Flow rim measures 59mm at the casing - I've had it for a while and as Car-Nut said, they grow after a bit at high pressure. No matter how the size runs (normally close enough), I love the Maxxis casings and compounds, work fantastic for our trails and worked well in CO as well.
