The Tn319 has an internal width of 19mm. Mavic say on their website:
Recommended tyre widths: 1.50 to 2.30
Most tyre widths are over rated and 0.1" is less than 3mm. I've frequently used wider tyres on 19mm. Mavic rims without problem. I can't promise but it should be fine.
Maybe I should wait to get wider rims? I'm thinking of Stan's Flow Ex rims which has a inner width of around 25mm. Is this too wide to run 2.25 Ardent's for the rear?
I've got a set of Flow rims (not EX) which are a bit wider than the EX and I've got a Schwalbe Nobby Nic 2.25 on it. You could go a lot narrower without problem.
A friend came off his bike recently with a large tyre on narrow rim, but he was fine on it for years. I think he let the pressure go too low by mistake, so watch that if you use the narrow option. He was tubed.
I had 2.35 Nobby Nics on DT TK540 rims (19 mm internal width) on my first 29er build. They felt quite unstable at low pressures to the point of being afraid to ride hard or having to pump them up to a harder pressure than I'd prefer. The switch to just Crests (21 mm internal width) was a huge improvement.
If given the choice, I would not use such wide tires on narrow rims.
Okay then I guess I have to save my 2.4's until I get some wider hoops, hopefully some Stan's Flow Ex's
