    looking for brake swap

Hello I have promax mechanical brakes and they are very poor in every way. I ve looked through the forum quite extensively and it looks like the BB7 mechanical brakes are the pick of the brakes.
my question is would i need to buy the complete brake kit(ie. rotors, pads, calipers etc) to swap or can i use some of the components from the promax brakes. the rotor is 160mm btw

    any input is appreciated
    thanks

I have no experience with the Promax brakes, so I can't answer your question. I can tell you that I recently got the following BB7 kit, it's cheap and works great.

Order the set from Ebay out of China. It comes with everything but cables and levers. You might be able to use the rotors you have now but why bother. You can try the levers you have now but a good set of Avids run around $20.

    bb7 set - $55
Avid BB7 Mechanical Disc Brake Caliper set

    levers - $14 or $19
You may be able to use your current levers, Im not really sure

Avid Speed Dial 7 Brake Levers Set - AAWYEAH Bikes and Bicycle Parts

    Cables set - $13
You can probably use your current housing, just swap out the cable. you might even be able to re use the cable, but you probably want to at least change the cable.

If you shop around you can get the BB7s pretty cheap. Go ahead and get their levers while you are at it, you'll like the adjustability of them. I bought a set of BB7s and used my stock levers and they stopped the bike just fine. I decided to buy the Avid levers later, should have just bought them from the beginning. The adjustments allow you to fine tune them exactly as you like.

    This!!!!!

I got pretty much this same setup to replace some avids that I didn't like or trust. Way better than the avid 3,5, or 7s and won't even compare to the bb7s. You won't regret going with the slx.
