Rockshox Revelation with RCT3 damper. Very plush and adjustable, especially with the older dual air model. RCT3 damper provides easy to use 3 position damping with settings that are actually useful rather than looking good on the spec sheet.
Hands down I would choose the New Pike, I have 1 coming on Friday.
I have a Tower Pro on my EMD ( Nice fork ) & have Revelation's on both my Jet9 RDO's & Rip9 RDO, I had the White brothers Loop on 1 of my Jet's & my wife still has 1 on here Jet9 RDO.
The Guy I sold my Rip9 Alloy to put a Fox 34 on it & I get to ride that & although it is a good fork, I don't think it is any better than other offerings & it costs a lot more.
The Revelation with RCT3 damper is a very nice fork & I'm sure the pike will be better.
Lightest at under 3 pounds, stiffest, no stiction (especially when railing turns, since it doesn't bind up like two leg forks on bushings), buttery as heck to ride.
The 140mm Max fork officially reduces to 110mm for 29er use, but you can get more travel depending on the tire.
In order of most desirable to least:
Cannondale Lefty Supermax
Formula ThirtyFive
Fox 34 Float 29 FIT CTD Adj/RockShox Pike
Others...
As for why, I just want it all when it comes to suspension and the top of the list checks off the most boxes. The problem is the price and availability. Riding a Fox 34 Float 29 FIT CTD Adj for now, which has impressed me, except that it's heavy (and the descend mode is too open to be useful).
I'll throw this in since no on has yet... but the White Brothers Loop 120 has been my favorite fork by a long shot. I've ran a SID XX and also a Reba RL, and the White Brothers beats them hands down in my opinion. Super plush on the chatter, but the magnetic threshold allows for having it as firm as you want after that.
I went from having the Xloc on the SID to being a little worried of not having it (a remote lockout) on this new White Bros fork... but I haven't missed it and haven't needed it. The fork just works great.
You can buy a 29er Revelation and easily convert it to a U-Turn coil fork using the springs from the Sektor 26". For me the best performing fork you can get in the 120-140 mm range, at a good price, with only a small weight penalty of, say, 200 grams for the coil. I can provide you with the serial numbers of the 3 replacement parts you need to get for the conversion, every decent RS dealer should be able to order them.
Having owned that fork, the Fox 34 with a 15QR is bounds stiffer. I love how people get hung up on the Maxle vs 15QR debate. It's all about stanchion size!
I am huge FOX fan. CTD sucks. New remote is too big. I would love to try new high end Rockshock with remote and larger stanchions. As a single speed rider, remote is a must for me. Talas is inferior to Float model for my simple style of riding, I had to get Talas to get Remote 29er in Black. I made a mistake by not trying another brand.
I will give you that Talas is probably cool for long travel fork, but it is not needed for 120 mm. It is not needed by me at all.
