    Ibis Ripley front derailleur

Received my Ripley 8 days ago (review is coming),and I've been experiencing some front derailleur issues. The bike has an e*thirteen TRS 24-34T crank, set up as a 2x10. By removing the bash you can also make this a 3x, but mine is 2x10.
Ibis specs this bike with the Shimano XTR FD-M986 (2x10 derailleur), but it ships with the M981 (3x derailleur), because Ibis says it matches the crankset. However, my shifting has not been crisp, and its driving me nuts! Sometimes it doesn't want to move to the large chain ring, and other times it doesn't want to drop to the small!
My question is: should the bike have the derailleur for a 2x or 3x, and should the shifter lever be set for a 2x or 3x? As I mentioned, the bike came with the M981 (3x) with the shift lever set for a 3x, and it shifted like crap!
    Any suggestions?

E-mail Ibis, or at least post in Ibis forum. Very helpful there
