Good tubed wheelset?
I'm thinking of buying some new wheels mostly because I have an itch for buying new stuff for the bike right now. Not really interested in dealing with sealant and tubeless though. I'm not looking for anything spectacular, as my bike is nothing spectacular. It is a 2011 Cannondale SL4 with a Recon Gold and Deore hydros. I'm in college I don't want to spend more than $400-500 and I plan on keeping the bike.
Is a new wheelset even worth it?
Thanks,
Sean

Hey everybody, ride my wheels! They ride good, real good.
I'm a wheel builder. SRLPE Wheel Works. Send me a PM.

You can purchase just about any type of wheel on the market and use them with tubes if you don't want to go tubeless.
A good combo, if you looking for durability, would be Sun Rhyno Lites on Deore hubs. Heavy, but very, very strong.

I think it's worth it if you save some weight and/or add stiffness. You also might consider why so many have gone tubeless. I stuck with tubes for a long time, and it is a hassle to setup tubeless initially, but I haven't had a flat since I made the conversion a year ago. That doesn't happen with tubes here in Arizona.

Flats aren't too much of an issue where I ride, so I'm not really concerned with that. I also really don't weigh that much (150) and just ride xc so I would be able to get away with a light wheel set. I'm thinking something like the Stan's Crest 29er. I know Stan's are a favorite, but haven't really seen the crest around too much. For about $400-450 on ebay would they be a worthwhile upgrade?
