Fox 34 Talas 29 Fit RLC 140 mm travel increase to 150 mm?

Kitejumping posted that he increased his 2012 Fox 34 Float 29 from 140 mm to 150 mm travel by just moving a pin in this thread:

    WFO Weigh In?

Has anyone disassembled or rebuilt a Fox 34 Talas 29 FIT RLC 140 mm?

I'd like to know if the Talas version has the same 150 mm hole to increase the travel...

I doubt it. In terms of travel reduction in the past, the Talas models could never be modded.

It cannot be changed. However Specialized is going to be running a 150 Talas on their upcoming Enduro 29er, so you might be able to obtain a set of 150 Talas internals for your fork from FOX at some point.

    I tried it w/ a Float....

The assessment is it can be done w/ enough overlap to where I didn't feel the edge of the bushing. BUT, there isn't enough space for top out on the cartridge side...only about 1/4" of extension before the cartridge side tops out and clunks.

No mod necessary? Do you mean just move the pin/bushing and the damping side is ok without the concern of over extending it OR that Fox will introduce a 150mm F34 29 at Interbike?

I'd like to mod my Float but am concerned about damaging it. If the CTD is easier or offerred as a 150mm I may just sell the 140 and buy a CTD.

I'm only seeing a 140mm on the fox website...where are you finding the 150mm? I can't find anything else that matches the site above.

    34 FLOAT 29

The 34 Float for aftermarket sales is marketed as 140mm, but capable of 150mm, and some manufactures, like the new Foes Shaver 29er, is being spec'd with a 150mm 34 Float, which is really the same fork as the 140mm.

CR Conception in France, who make a 140mm replacement open bath damper for the F34 will make me a damper cartridge for my 2012 F34 Float 29 to allow 150mm. The above post suggests this damper would be a bit shorter to allow space for top out, or am I interpreting it wrong. Maybe a direct question to Fox. IS the 2012 and 2013 F34 29 chassis the same and can the CTD damper be fitted to 2012 and allow 150mm. If yes then the CR damper will work for 220euro. Open Bath, low and high speed cmrpession adn rebound adjustment. A very similar feel to BOS suspension.Someone has used this cartridge on the F34 at 140mm

So Floats are good to go... Talas's need 150mm internals. Now let's all nag Fox lots and lots so they have a 150mm/120mm Talas for 2014 models (or a 36 29er 150mm~160mm Float+Talas).

So I talked to Fox. They stated that you will basically damage/destroy the damper (over-extend the damper).

He said the only two forks that can be lengthened in travel are the F80 which you can extend to 100mm or the F100 which you can extend to 120.

Just received some clarification from fox.:

" Changing the travel of a 34 FLOAT29 will depend on the year of the fork. If the fork is a 2013 model it will require replacing a few parts internally. If the fork is a 2012 model you will need to move the spring retainer for the negative and topout springs up to the 150mm hole on the airspring shaft."

Sure! I have a 2012 Float 140. Swapped out the pin to the second hole. Filled with new oil in both legs. Now, i get a top out knock and sound. It goes away when rebound is turned up but when its almost all the way to the +.

I tried turning the rebound to the highest setting, taking out the air and cycling the fork. Worked with a max of 80 psi. I need the fork at around 100psi and it still knocks at that point.

Huummm.... let's see: have you try your fork with the air spring side released so you can see if your damper cartridge has enough travel for the 150mm mod ? (I mean with the air piston rod removed or pushed from the bottom of the fork as I pictured on I've done the Fox 34 Float 29 2013 140 to 150mm travel mod)
And do you know if the knock is from the air side or the damping side ?
My fork is a 2013, I need to cut a part for the 150mm mod but my cartridge side has a 155mm travel tested without the air piston rod nut

Indeed some dampers are only 145mm travel (140mm travel annonced+5mm of negative travel)
Caution: maybe you should stop riding your fork until you check that because the damper is not design to be the top-out damper and could be damaged.
You are becoming a pro at dismounting-mounting the internal of Fox forks !!!

Anyone know where i can purchase the longer damper? Is that something i can order from fox?

The sound is coming from the damper side. So im going to assume the 2012 damper is 145mm which isn't long enough.

I think from what I read in differents forums that even in 2012 some dampers are 155mm and some are 145mm. But I don't know about the internal bushing placement. Maybe even with a 155mm damper it will be to high for the lower bushing in your fork ?
On the money side maybe you should sell your present fork on ebay and buy a 150mm one, the damper alone must be expensive, isn't it ?
On this thread there was at the end of page 1 a shop selling 150mm 34 OEM at a good price but it look likes it's out of stock.

Does anyone know what are the parts involved in the Talas to Float conversion for a 2012 34 29er FIT?

As long as I know they are:

    20-02-078-KIT 2012 34 29 FLOAT 140 Air Shaft Assembly
    820-05-197-KIT 2012 34 FLOAT Air Topcap Assembly

but I've been told that I may need also this one:

Can anyone help me? do I need this last one?
