Stem length is about you, not the bike.

Well how will I know what will work for me then? Is longer the mm meant for racing bikes? Would a 110mm work well for an XTC trail bike?

What length stem are you riding now and how is it working for you?
As SPP said, it's about making the bike and you fit each other for your intended purpose.
e.g. XC racers like to be more stretched out and lower and all mountain riding a little bit more upright and centered on the bike.
What type of riding are you going for? Is your bike to small and you need a longer stem?
Many variable and answers to your question. We need more info.

Thank you for your response. The stem I have on it now is Giant made. I do want something stronger and more ice candy as you would say haha. As for measurements I'm not sure exactly how long it is. I'll measure it with a ruler in the next hour. As for my riding style, I'm more into the trail riding mountain bike sort of dude. Not into the whole stretched out stem for racing. The bike I current own from Giant is perfect size for me. I'm 5'8 with a Small size frame. The Medium size frame was pretty large actually, I felt small on it.
