    Cassette/Rear Hub Help Needed

    Hey all,

I am new to the forum (though I'm not sure why I didn't sign up sooner) and I am getting back into the game after I got hit by a car last year on my RockHopper and the frame was cracked. I found a sweet deal on a slightly used Anthem X 29 frame and want to build it up. I need to get some rims and my question is, do newer rims that probably come with a hub for a 10 speed cassette, can they support a 9 speed cassette? I'd like to take the XT cassette I have and use it until I can upgrade everything. Look forward to hearing from you all!

    Thanks

    Jeff

10 speed cassettes are the same width as 9 speed or for that matter 8 speed cassettes, no worries there.

The freehub width is the same for 8-9-10 speed cassettes.

This is fantastic news, thanks all!

So, when I do decide to upgrade to a 20 speed setup, I realize I'll have to get a new rear derailleur and new shifters. Will I also need a new front derailleur, are they ten speed (2 chainring) specific? Is the 10 speed chain narrower? Thanks guys, I'm getting the frame this weekend and stoked to start getting the parts that I'll need.

I had to put a 1mm ring spacer on a 240s hub when going from 9 to 10 speed.
