Building an extra 29er rim for the trainer
Thanks for the help...
2013 Trek Carbon Comp Hardtail with Stans rims and an XO setup.
The current rear cassette is an SRAM XG-1080 which is over $200.
My question is, can I purchase a used rim, maybe off craigslist and then order a cheaper cassette?
Does the cassette have to be SRAM?
Can you suggest the cheapest that you think would work? Currently I have a 10 ring 11-36 setup. Maybe something like the SRAM PG-1050 10 Spd cassette?
Are rims specific to cassette? In other words, is there anything specific that I have to look for when I'm purchasing a used "trainer" rim, such as the housing that the cassette attaches to? etc...
My trainer is a Cycleops Fluid and I am planning on getting a slick for the newly built cheap rim...
Any disc brake 29er wheel will work, as long as the axle sizes match, except for those with XD (11 speed) free hubs.
And, any Shimano or SRAM 10 speed cassette, to include "road" cassettes, will work.
You should buy a book on bike maintenance and head over to the beginner section of the forum.
Also, the rim is just the metal/carbon hoop. The wire things are spokes, the metal part in the middle is the hub. Together, with spoke nipples, they lace up to make a wheel.
15 yard penalty , unnecessary roughness,,,,,,,,,X2.
