    29 wheel build advice

I am 6'4 240 lbs. XC and AM riding. Yeti SB95 looking to buy parts for my first wheel build...
Looking at Flow and Flow EX. is the Flow EX worth $50.00 more a rim over Flow? What spoke count do I need 32, or 36?

    thanks for the advice.....

Most bearing balls are super-hard steel. Lately, some suppliers have been promoting very expensive bearings that use ceramic balls.

These are a silly gimmick, aimed at gullible cyclists with too much money. They have no real benefit in practical use on bicycles.

The Flow EX replaced the Flow. If you want the latest and greatest, get the EX.
I weigh more than you and I ride 32 spokes. Use DT spokes, double butted 2.0, 1.8.
    Use brass nipples.

At your size and weight along with the mention of AM riding, I would opt for 36 spokes.

I think the Flow EX is rated at 250 lbs max. Not saying heavier guys don't ride them, just puling that from the memory bank.

If you build up with 36 hole rims, you'll have less choice for other rims if you ever want to change brands. I have a 36 Flow and it has held up very nice. So has the 32 hole flows I have. If you want the latest and greatest, get the EX. If you want to save money on a good proven rim, get the regular flows.

I built a set of WTB speed disc all mountain 32 hole with DT Supercomp 1.8/1.7/2.0 spokes last year and have beat them unmercifully since. I'm the same size as you and ride a ht. They have only been trued this winter because I was bored. Great hoops for the price.

I'm going with flows next time though.
