    Epic or Anthem X Advanced 29er 1?

Have a 26" Trance from 2007, and want a new FS race 29er.
First I thought that a Specialized Epic 29er was what I wanted, but now I think that Anthem X 29er is the bike for me.
I really like the spec. on Anthem X Adv. 29er 1, with XT and Sid, but it seems like it is sold out in Sweden in my size.
I can get the Anthem Adv. 29er 2. And to be honest, the prize on that seems to be a good deal, since it is the same frame as the 1 and 0.
But the spec. is of course not so nice. I can of course get a new pair of lighter wheels for it if I feel like I need it.
But will I be happy enough with sram X5/X7?

Just buy it now. The Anthem X 29er is highly-upgadeable, since they make such a lightweight frame....that is KEY.

I will check with my LBS if he can replace the Elixir 3 brakes with XT, since it seems that most riders are not so happy with them.
Then I will try how the X5/X7 feels like, and maybe replace them later.

Buy the bike for the frame, and use the money you save upgrading. X5 is junk (it works, but not all that well). Elixir 3 is better than Elixir 1, but still nowhere near as good as any Shimano brake system.

Tried a bike with similar spec. on shifters, derailleur, brakes and crank.
I think that the "1" is what I want. If I can't get it, maybe I should wait for the 2014 instead?

I found that if Elixir 3s are properly set up, they are not half bad. 1s on the other hand .....

Good thing you ordered now, OP. Giant always is SOLD OUT of XC bikes by summertime.

Seems like it is already sold out :-(
None of my dealers can get it.
I was in US last week, and it was sold out there as well.
But the specification for 2014 can be found on Giants homepage.
Still full XT but with Fox instead of Rockshox.

Now that the Giant Anthem X 29er is SOLD OUT, maybe Giant will think twice about discontinuing production of all their 29ers.

I bought a 2014 Anthem X 29er 1 a couple of weeks ago. Are they sold out of the initial shipment already or are you referring to the 2013s?

Are there any differences or anything new with the 2014 Anthem compared to the 2013 Anthems?

I was referring to the 2013.
    Is the 2014 already available?
What I can see, the difference is that the front and rear shocks are Fox on 2014 (was RS on 2013)
And 2014 is black, silver and blue. (2013 was black, white and red)

    2014
has Shimano SLX brakes instead of Avid.
14\15 spokes instead of straight 14s.
tires are now Schwalbe Racing Ralph Performance instead of the tubeless ready Evos.
color is now all black with some silver trim.

Ok, but according to this link it is not SLX.

And 2013 did not have Avid brakes as far as I know.
Are you referring to Advanced 1 or 2?

Now I noticed that your bike is the alloy (non advanced) version.

I responded to the question about the Anthem but did not know it was about the Advanced. I know the OP refers to the carbon but thought this question was for the standard model. The Advanced 1 is all XT.

Today, my LBS booked me on a Specialized test ride event. His suggestion is that I should get an Epic 29er instead.
If I understand it correct, the importer seems to be a little bit difficult to work with.
When I wanted my LBS to order a 2014 Giant, he said "no thanks".
I could order it somewhere else, or go back to my first idea an get an Epic.
