I've heard carpet fiber components are great, but be sure to get them with StainMaster ™ or they're a b!tch to keep clean.
Use it, use it, use it while you still have it.

Mine happens to be a full sussy (and for sale in classifieds). It was built to run as a full 29er or w/650B rear. I've got 2 rear wheels for it and interchange them based on what type of riding I'm going to do.

    LONG travel- 150mm
    FOX 36 Vanilla (yes a 36)- 152mm
    slack HTA- 68 (29er) & 67 (w/650b-rear)

True Fab 6" travel FS 29er- NAHBS show bike - Buy and Sell and Review Mountain Bikes and Accessories

Its been a fun bike. The first week I had it built up, I rode the Red Bull 12hr Angel Fire event. Needless to say, I was one of the ONLY 29er on the course. And as an old married guy from TX w/3 kids, I was pleased with a 22nd place finish in the Open class.

I had this for a few days, but ended up sending the frame back to the nice folks at Gunnar (and not because it was steel... that was a plus).

Went from this "XC" MCR9 :

    To this "rigid AM" N9:

    Canfield Nimble 9
    VooDoo Zombie 500 fork
    Hope Tech M4 180F/160R
    3x9 XT (20-32-44 x 11-32)
    710mm flat bar
    Forged stem
    Velocity Blunt/American Classic rims
    AC hubs
    Ardent 2.4F/Ignitor 2.1R

Still excellent climbing, but better descending.
    -F

PS - if that rear wheel ever dies (it should this season), I have another Blunt to fix 'er up.
It's never easier - you just go faster.

Well, here's my rigid Monkey with some recent NukeProof upgrades Got the bar first and liked the colour and needed a new rear hub and could get both F&R for the cost of the Pro2 EVO I was looking at, so decided to go with them and match things up - Going with the National colours of Blue, Yellow/Gold and Black.
As to the setup, right now running Shimano LX M580 crank w/ 36/22 SLX rings, shifters & derailleurs, SRAM PG990 cassette, HOPE Mono Mini F&R with 160mm rotors (will be upgrading front to 180mm), NukeProof Generator hubs laced to a Alex TD17 on the rear and WTB SpeedDisc for the front (for now, will be going to wider rims soon), 760mm Warhead NukeProof bar, 90mm/6* stem, generic post, Ergon GS1 grips and my oldest saddle, an 8 year old WTB RocketV.

    Retrotec Triple

I've been riding an HT Ti IF for a couple of years but I got my "dream" bike (other than a McClung) in the fall. It's a Retrotec Triple. I love it! It's lighter and way more nimble than it looks.

Those were Formula rotors. They started creaking under heavy breaking, first the rear and more recently the front too. I replaced them with Starlite rotors.

    Here's my Origin 8 Scout

Posted a similar message on a Origin 8 build thread, but wanted to share it here and maybe draw more interest in this steel 29er gallery...

These frames are cheap but the geometry rides well with the SS track ends set for the shortest chainstay possible. Running mine geared with just an XT quick release on the rear and no slippage.

    17" Origin 8 Scout frame
    2009 Reba SL - oem at 80mm
    Sun Ringle Charger wheelset
SRAM x-9 shifters and derailleurs running 2x9
    Sunline 762 bars
    RaceFace Respond seatpost
    RaceFace Evolve 70mm stem

Handles great for the mostly XC single track around here and the wheelset is very smooth. These are the widest bars I have used and cannot see myself going back to something less.

Yes - the bar ends are fairly upright, this is my 4th bike where I always end up using them. They give me one more position to combat hand fatigue.

    It's actually 20#15oz now.

-american classic all mountain wheels tubeless
    -maxxis ikon exo tires
    -wtb silverado team saddle
    -egg beaters
    -sunline stem
    -easton ec70 wide bar
    -removed bash guard
    -alligator rotors
    -niner carbon fork

the fork and wheels together saved over 1400 grams. Tires saved 250 grams, bar saved 130 grams saddle saved 100 grams, pedals saved 250 grams, removing reflectors saved over 100 grams, removing bashguard saved 100 grams, and the grips/stem/rotors all saved about 150 grams together. It all adds up quickly, but the fork and wheels/tires were the big ticket items.

Thanks TexasNavy. Didn't realize the stock wheels are that heavy. Saw that the Niner RDO fork is going on bicyclemob on Sunday. Hoping to score a good deal.

Did you swap out ikons for ikons?

    .5FAT9 (or 29+ front) now...

Tubeless setup 3.0 Knard on a 22.6mm internal width rim yields a respectable 2.71" of girth. Some say it is like a Racing Ralph 2.4 on steroids... let the games begin

The stock ikons were wire bead non exo version and quite heavy. I swapped them out for the folders with exo protection.
