What size chainstay guard on a Spearfish?

What size chainstay guard (Lizard Skin, etc.) do I need for my 2012 Salsa Spearfish. It's an aluminum full suspension 29er with 17.9 in chainstays. It's a medium (18") frame, but they should all be the same.

The largest....usually wrapping with an old tube works the best.

Much better than anything I've tried so far. Installs clean and long lasting.

I did the old tube wrapped in electrical tape on my last hardtail, it just looked ghetto. This is a new bike (much flashier than I'm used to) and the hydro brake line runs on the underside of the stay. The Lizard Skin isn't expensive, and it looks clean. If it doesn't last I'll consider something else.

So I measured the stay to compare against Lizard's numbers:

Spearfish: tapers from 80mm to 100mm (around housing mounts) and is 280mm long between the welds. I tried the Jumbo guard in the shop on my bike and it was too narrow (Lizard says its 85 to 95mm). The 29er protector is the same width AND would be too long and probably buzz my tire even if it did fit around the stay.

Looks like I'll order the Super Jumbo which should have width to spare but be a little shorter than my stay.

Actually I just checked and the 254mm length will be just perfect: from the drop out weld to the forward housing stop just before the tire bulges out toward the stay. Super Jumbo it is... for now.

It's all in the execution of it.

Inner tube on my previous TransAM.

The 3M Mastic tape on my current Honzo.
