Went to the darkside.. EMD 29er build made from a ladies GTw!

The build all started with an impluse buy. Impulse, meaning a 1 week obsession with the idea of NEEDING a 29er. The frame went on sale on Jenson and boom. I got a fork new due to my lovely Amazon Prime membership and 3 days later, the EMD was born. The compenents (less the fork, stem, and headset) are all off of the GTw Avalanche Expert Disc. I bought that bike for $500 back in 2010. It came with all SLX, so even if the bike didnt work out, I'd still have good components for the price. Anyway.. everything went smooth less the headset (star nut in the fork was a PIA!).

The first ride didnt go so well, as the rear derailleur wasnt on right and the bearings in the bottom bracket were toast.. Found out the 18" was slightly too much reach so I had to get a shorter (downhill) stem... after the chain routing was fixed, different stem, racier seat (not shown in pics), and the bottom bracket was replaced, it's smooth as butter. I havent touched my other bikes since!!

Must just be the angle. I'm 6'1" on a large in the mcr9, fits like a glove! Definitely jealous of your riding scenery. Nothing like that here in houston...

    Enjoy your new bike!

My girlfriend loves her 2012 EMD, and since the time I built it up and, the shop has kept 2 display, and have sold 5 frames of them so far...this was January I think.

Another convert...I'm thinking about building a 2012 EMD for the wifey because they make it in XS. She still may be too short for it.
