Trek Fuel ex 8 29er vs Canyon Spectral CF 8

Hey guys, looking for some opinions/recommendations. I have to choose between a Trek Fuel ex 8 29er, and a Canyon spectral CF 8. Both will cost me $4000 CAD. I am 185cm/6'1", 75kg/165lbs. I was hoping to get a 29er, but the Canyon is slightly higher spec'd and CF, whereas the Trek is aluminium but has the 29er wheels. This will be my first mountain bike, so any insight is appreciated! Thanks

I can't answer your question specifically, but I just got an EX 8 and love it! It's quiet, solid, and cushy. Inspires lots of (maybe too much) confidence. My 1st MTB in over a decade. My other choice was an EX 9.8 and YT Jeffsy. The Canyon looks like it has great components/price for a 27.5.

What was your previous bike? The answer to that question would help inform a whole lot. For me personally, if it ain't got 29" wheels, it ain't in the running, it's that simple, at 6'2", they just suit and work better for me.

Best bit of advice I could give is find a local shop to swing a leg over the Fuel to see how it feels, and then swing a leg over the 650B version to compare and see which wheel size you like better. If you can't do that, then I guess do lots more reading on the webs and try to figure out which might better suit you and also which you like the look of better. Maybe even swing a leg over the 650B+ version (which can also run 29" wheels) and see how that feels, maybe that's your sweet spot.
One day your life will flash before your eyes, will it be worth watching??

I'm 6'2"/188cm as well and much prefer 29" wheels. That said, 27.5+/650b+ is workable inasmuch as the diameter is only about 10mm smaller than a standard width 29" tire.
Personally if I was happy with component spec, I'd go with whichever bike fits best. Fit is #1.

The Spectral is Boost front and rear although not yet listed on the site with 30mm inner width rims and 2.6" tires.

Or whichever shop you prefer a very close #2. There are 2 shops in town that I really don't care for.....that makes my decisions much easier.
    I wanna ride!

Don't know if you already made your choice, but I'll say that my EX8 (2017) is a dream. Like another poster said, inspires almost too much confidence....crazy what I've cleared and accomplished on this thing! And...this is why I posted...I have both 27.5 and 29 wheels for it, making it extremely versatile. I don't know about the Canyon and if you can switch it back and forth, but I'll tell ya, Trek's EX line is tough to beat if you like trail, gnar, DH, and XC all in one bike.
