Sun MTX 33's tubes or tubless?

How hard to run tubeless or should I ? and what would be good tires for speed nothing to big on rear 45mm or smaller that will work welll for a 60% road 40% off road but road being more important.

Thanks for any replies, tires are a tuff one and there are so many to chooose from as prices vary so much!

I have been running them tubeless with a ghetto conversion based on electrical tape and an old valve with WTB Dissents. They aren't the easiest wheels i have converted but part of that could be the dissents which have a wire bead and very stiff casing.

I like the electrical tape style as it is A) cheaper than Gorilla tape by a magnitude and B) easier to build up in small increments.

I also run them tubeless with Dissents, use the stans yellow tape, and would echo everything that rockcrusher said. If you're looking for something seeing a lot of road duty, you might want to look at something lighter than the 33 though.

they are stout and stand up to a lot of punishment so far. I ride a lot of very rocky technical terrain on a rigid hardtail with them and they have stood up to all that my 200lbs can give them so far. I don't jump much or anything however so I can't talk about that but look up the photo posts by MikeSee and you will notice that his bikes mostly use them as well and he definitely hits stuff big and hard.

I think it would be silly to put a 45c tire, that is about a 1.8 inch tire, on that rim. Just makes no sense whatsoever! Plus it will widen the 45c tires to the point where it would likely rub if you have clearance issues. Then you would have to drop to a 38 to 40c tire. Don't do it.

These rims are for monster huge tires, in the 2.25+ range, for doing very demanding riding. You want a much, much narrower rim. More like a touring rim. Not these.
