    Specialized stumpjumper 29er front brakes!

just purchased my new bike and i have taken it out only once, around 5 miles on the bike. i hear a slight noise on the front breaks. like the pads are slightly touching (minimal). is this normal? do i need to take back to shop? is it because it's new and it's adjusting? should i give it sometime to brake in? just want to make sure i keep on top of it. very expensive purchase for me.

Take it for a long downhil. Let the brakes cool. Recheck when u get home.

It could be that the caliper isn't quite centered over the rotor. That's an easy fix. If you look down between the pads while the wheel is spinning, and one side is closer than the other, it just needs to be recentered by loosening the two mounting bolts. If the rotor is bent or warped, it's probably better to have the shop fix or replace it.

Easy fix, either that it back to the shop, or re-center your caliper yourself.

If not sure how to do it, loosen bolts, place a business card on each side, squeeze the brake lever and tighten bolts while still holding the brake lever.

    Works for me.

    Your bike is hopelessly broken.

Kidding, it's probably the caliper not being center on the rotor. If they're Avid brakes, get ready for future fun when that rotor starts warping. And the squealing...we can't forget the squealing.
