    Specialized Fate Comp

My wife is in the market for a 29er HT, and after testing out a Trek Superfly and a Spot Honey Badger, the Fate looks like it's next up for review. The Trek and Spot were too harsh (she's used the riding my old Burner), and the carbon Fate sounds like it'll remedy some of the ride quality issues. Anybody here have experience with the Fate? The other bike that she's looking at is the Stumpjumper Evo 29 (1x10 HT) plus a sweetpost or something, but nobody has any and they are apparently just gone for '13.

My last experience with carbon MTBs is from 1995, so I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that in the 18 years since, pretty huge durability improvements have been made. So, say she drops the thing on a pile of pointy rocks or slides it into a tree... does that kinda stuff do structural damage to modern CF frames, or is it about as damage-resistant as a steel or Ti frame?
