I'm looking for any data people might have about the difference between the Racing Ralph and Specialized Control tires. I am doing Leadville for the third time going for 8:45 ish and looking for any tips.
The Racing Ralph is a good 30g lighter so that's a big plus, but I don't know casing stiffness or rolling resistance data. Can anyone shed some light.
I've also seen data that wider is better and I'm bigger so thinking wider as well.
I've ridden both and like both, currently on racing ralphs, if I was picking between the 2 for any race longer than 20 miles I'd go with the Ground Controls as I would have less concern for getting flat or damaging the sidewall. If I wasn't concerned about potential flatting in the race I'd stick with the ralphs, i love them.
I have a lot of friend that swear by RR's. I used a Fast Trak Control fr. and Renegade Control. Rr. with no problems. I think I would do Renegades fr. and rr. next time. There is nothing super loose or rocky so the least amount of rolling resistance gets my vote. I do remember hearing that the RR's were included in a test and were found to have the lowest amount of rolling resistance of everything tested but, I don't know what other tires were tested.
Good, what I thought, but was checking terminology. I have been running SWorks Fast Trac, Captain and GC in 2.0 on my 29ht. Was thinking to get a set of the Fast Trac "Controls" in 2.2 to add abit more cush and protection. They don't seem to be too much heavier on the "hand holding" scale.
