    Shimano M542 44/32/22 vs. FSA Afterburner BB30 39/27

I'm new to both 29'ers and Cannondale, and not familiar with the BB30 feel/acceleration. This is for a hardtail.

    What would you guys like?

    Thanks!

It depends, do you need a granny @ 22 or 24 teeth instead of 27. I do with an 11-34 cassette. I'd pick a Shimano slx 22/36. Almost all the range of a triple with the advantages of a double.

I don't think I'll be using the granny much (and the cassette is 11-36). I'm just wondering a) are 39 big-wheel teeth enough and b) if it makes sense to spend upgrade $$ on a BB30 crank for a Cannondale.

I run 39/26 front and 11/36 rear on my Flash. I have plenty of top end gear, the BB30 is stiffer and smoother. If money does not matter I would swap it in a heartbeat.

Good advice here, thanks. I pulled the trigger on the FSA Afterburner with BB30.
