    Scorcher!

So I went into a local shop a couple of days ago to buy some water bottles. Next thing I know I am walking out with a new ride.
I had been seriously considering a new bike; a single speed specific 29er was what I had my mind on. There are so many good builders out there right now; I wouldn’t know how to choose. Should I have James build another one for me (I have the second Blacksheep ever built), or Wes now that he’s building in Austin, I currently reside in Houston. Then I see this white scorcher and immediately feel in love. Something about it just pulled me in. I never considered buying a scorcher, not really into fixed off-road, but this one is different. The customer that originally ordered it had rear bosses mounted for a back brake, extra bottle mounts, and rack mounts, just how I would do it. The size was perfect, and after sizing it up, I realized that this was basically a single speed frame 29er. I am not sure about the bars and stem. I originally planned on taking those off in favor of a more traditional set up, but I am at least going to give it a shot off-road. I know it really shouldn’t be called a scorcher if it's not fixed or with the scorcher bars, but I don’t really care. I have always wanted a Willits, he is who I would consider the father of the 29er movement.

Good buy!! I was going in to West End Bicycles to buy that White Scorcher tomorrow!!!! Oh well, I didn't need another bike anyway. Especially one that had so many hairline cracks in the frame

Oh, and by the way - they weighed it for me and it came out to be exactly 22lbs!! I couldn't believe it was so light and had the cool Brooks Leather Saddle as well. Typically Chromoly Steel Rigid Singlespeeds tip the scales another 5lbs heavier - that's why I really love that bike!!!

    Beautiful bike.
I think your math is a little skewed though on bike weights. My Karate Monkey weighs 21.5#, and there is nothing super exotic on it. If you lost the Dimensions crank and seat post, and built a lighter, yet still strong wheelset, I bet you'd be hovering around 20#'s...or just leave it the way it is and ride it at a very respectable 22#'s.

    Big news . . .

I just spoke with the guys at W.E.B and Sam is not building Bikes right now. The Shop that we was working with in Austin, Texas and Sam have parted ways. I can only hope that he resurfaces in the near future . . .

He sold off ALL of his inventory and parts . . .

W.E.B are out of Scorchers, and only have one Willits Trail King (geared) in stock - that's it.

Hmmm. Odd with the back brake, mine came with only the front, but it is fixed. Wes built this one. I've had it for over a year and a half.
