    Rear Shock Upgrade Information

    Hello,

New to the forum here. From Kamloops BC, ride a 2013 Giant Trance X 29er.

I have been enjoying the bike so far. I would like to upgrade the rear shock to something that has a "Pro-Pedal" or able to lock out the rear shock.
I'm not sure what to look for when buying a rear shock. The measurements from eye to eye, would like to buy the correct shock needed.

There's the link to the bike I currently have.

The budget would be in the $500 range hopefully, thanks in advance.

"I'm not sure what to look for when buying a rear shock"

you need to know the eye to eye measurement and the stroke length

Not sure where to find those measurements.

Not sure if I can measure the shock while its mounted in the frame eye to eye, or if its the measurement from eye to eye when it's removed from the frame.

7.25'' eye to eye. Any recommendations for a upgrade?

now measure from the bottom of the shaft up to the bottom of the air can to get the stroke measurement. a Fox rp23 would be one choice for a replacement.

You also need to know the stroke and tune. The tune depends on the suspension type. I'm not familiar at all with Giants so maybe try their customer support line or email, or your shop.

    Re: Rear Shock Upgrade Information

It's 7.25x1.75. Kinda hard to find a decent replacement shock. I ended up going with a 7.5x2 fox Dhx air 5.0 been using it for about 6 months with no ill effects

Good point. Look for a M or an L sticker on the shock for the tune, does it have a RS Monarch on it now. I'm guessing here that it is a Medium or a light tune.

1.75, it has a red box with L in it, and a blue box with a M in it.
