    Niner Carbon Fork stem torque

So I recently put a set of Crank Bros bars onto my Niner Fork. Whenever I'm pulling hard on the bars, going up a climb or just accelerating hard, I hear a creaking type noise coming from what sounds like the fork. The stem is clamped to the steerer with 8 Nm. Spec is 9 Nm, but I'm worried about going tighter, because, well, carbon. Am i safe tightening that a little more? Could the sound be from the bar/stem interface instead? Any thoughts at all?

Dont over torque it, pull everything apart clean and re grease and re torque. use carbon paste on stem to fork contact point.

The torque numbers are typically for the hardware not the fork itself. The bolts will probably break before you crush the fork.

Check the torque specs on the stem. Your 8-9nm seem really high.

Typically stem bolts are rated from 4 to 6nm.

I have my bolts at 5nm for my road and mtb.

Check your headset for play. Maybe reinstall it. Loose headsets will creak too.

Did you mean Crank Bros stem (not bar)?

    If so, which stem?

Niner says not to use stems with expanding wedges, like used on the higher end Crank Bros stems and older Thomsons.

I used the stem and bars. The pictured stem is the one I used. Looks like I need to look for a new stem....
