Just over two months ago I built an On One Scandal v2 and it has been fantastic, best fitting bike i have had, found my perfect saddle, stem length awesome...
...then it happened, the creaking started, and I hate a noisy bike. Found the bolts on the swappable dropout were to long so topping out before you could tighten them so trimmed them and all was well...
..until the creaking returned, I ride a 32:20 on big old hills and am pretty fast these days powering up everything and the drop-outs can't take it and have started rubbing into the frame mating face
Clearly the answer was to replace my frame with a niner Air 9 carbon, a very cost effective fix especially when I changed my Reba RLT for a REBA RLT Tapered crown to maintain the looks, oh and black post, stem and bars, aaaand white grips and saddle. I already had the black middleburns mind but the uno 32t cog that is coming wasn't cheap
Still no more creaky dropouts and I now poses something I have lusted for since it was released and before that look frames etc
Going to give her a good thrashing at the weekend and can't wait
I am looking at some new wheels but am at a bit of a loss as to what to get to replace my Stans 355, hope pro SS combo which is cool if a little weighty. Looks like something Crest rim'ed maybe Tune (but worry about cracking) DT240 (ss only in center lock boo), Stans SS a bit boring. I do keep looking at the Extralight Crest rims with the funky ass rear hub which has great spoke angles on the drive side despite not being SS, but not sure on durability of the hubs? Would shed about a pound on my wheels (but at a big old price)
What to do
Here are some pictures, hope you enjoy
