    New Member Introduction... First 29er!

Hello everyone, my name is Shane and I am a new mtbr member. I just bought my first 29er today and I'm feeling pretty stoked about it, thought I'd introduce myself to the group and get some opinions of the new ride.

I ended up with a really sweet deal on a 2013 model Scott Scale 970, that my LBS was selling 30% off. I'd love to hear thoughts on the bike, especially from those of you who ride one. I know it's the bottom end of the scale line, but that works out perfectly for me right now.

I've been away from the sport for about 6 years; got wrapped up in motocross for a while, but I'm getting back into it. I'm looking forward to chatting with you guys and sharing my experiences with everyone. Hopefully I can be a contributing member of the forum.

    Lookin forward to replies.

Congratulations dude. Not a bad bike at all. So you were in to mtb a few years ago? What kind of bike did you ride then?

Yeah, I've been riding mountain bikes since I was 13 years old. I gradually progressed from walmart bikes to the big boy stuff, the last bike I had before I got into moto was a Trek hardtail. Bikes have changed a lot in 6 years... much better components available now (even on lower end bikes) and much lighter too. I anxious to get out and ride. I've got some holiday beer weight to burn off.

The Scale 970 has a good frame and decent components, while the fork is not the best in the world.
It is a good bike to upgrade over time.

Welcome back. This sport can be just as pricey.

Okay, how'd you come up with that member name? Gotta be a story there.

Just messin'. Welcome back and good luck around here.

Welcome :-) I came very close to purchasing a Scott 920 before I fell in love with my Specialized.

Well, I'm assuming you get the Shane part (pretty self-explanatory there), but the 713 part, that was my race number (in moto) and also happens to be a Houston area code (where I grew up). So yeah, there's a little bit of a story there, but I'm sure your were just messing around. Pretty Funny!

Thanks for all the comments guys, feels pretty good to be a part of the group. I'll post up some pics and maybe a short review after I get the bike delivered. It won't arrive from Scott until probably Saturday.

    Talk to y'all soon.
